Open House at St. Joseph the Worker School

My husband took a  day  off last week so we could attend  the open house at our children's school.  St. Joseph the Worker had celebrated the Catholic School Spirit Week and the open house was scheduled on the second day.  I love attending Open Houses because we get to see how our kids  interact with other children and teachers.  It is also a great opportunity for not only parents but other relatives who wants to see the  school, students, and school faculty and staff.

 Here in the photos, my husband battled with our son in Mathematics.  They did one  division problem and I was very  amazed that they finished at the same time.  Parents and students battled it out and the children outdid the parents lol.

 My husband and I  split ourselves in some   subjects  to see both of them .  They wanted us to see certain presentations  that  they did for parents.  We enjoyed  our daughter's music and religion class.

 It is great  watching the kids having  fun while learning.

 Our kids love it when are around.  They are now 10 and 11 but very much  love us to  watch what they do.  I am glad they are that way because I read from several posts where  kids  doesn't want the parents  around and that to me is sad.

 Some of  son's classmates were sick during the Open House so they were not there but his class is a small and I like it because the teacher can really give everyone of them an attention.

 Our former neighbor who is a teacher at school, it was nice  talking to her.

 Despite our effort to attend to every class of our children, we somehow miss one part of our daughter's and she cried, I felt bad.

 We made up with her, my husband attended all of hers after that and I go back and forth to her class and  her brother's class.

 We stayed at the school until the open house was over.  Snacks, lunches, and beverages were served for the parents.  My husband lost a turn on a game that parents and students  participated to and as a consequence, he was asked to  do what the teacher does.  I thought he was a natural.

There is a tension going on at the school and we don't  really know what  it is.  I don't like it one bit because my kids are very observant and they too can feel  it.  I hope that the  Diocese  and the SJS school would  work together and solve whatever the issue is.  As a parent, I want to  be informed but unfortunately, they haven't let us know  what is going on.  I love how the principal of this school run things so it would be  sad to see him let go by the Diocese.  He invested 43 years  of his life serving the school and  that would be devastating if he will be  forced to retire.  I hope that whoever  makes the decision would give him the chance to retire on his own terms.  I know I would be  devastated  if I were him.  I am praying for the best for the sake of the  children, teachers, and staff of St. Joseph the Worker School.  

Third Graders' Saint Day

Today is the first day of going back to school for this year.  My son is not feeling it so he teared up when I said good bye to him at the school door.  I think that once he saw his friends, he won't be feeling like it tomorrow.  It just hard to go back after  a long break. Anyway,  the photos below were taken during the 3rd graders' saint day on December  the 16th of 2015.  Their calls saint is St. Lucy.  

 I always get emotional when I saw my children participating at church.  I can't explain that feeling I always have but it happens every time I go there and see them as part of the ceremony.

 His teacher asked him to draw St. LUcy and this is what he came up with.

 He was also the one carrying it to the altart.

 I had a stage fright growing up so I am very glad to see both of of my kids  not having my fear.

 EJ always look forward to  their  saint day because they get to dressed up.  His coat was a little big but he didn't mind.

 in  11 days, my little man is turning 9 years old.  Oh boy, where did the time go?  As much as I would like for him to stay little, time is slipping away.  Both of them are growing up like  weeds.

 I am so fortunate that I get to witness  their growth.  I get to stay and work at home and take care of them.  Not every mom  have that kind of oppotunity so I am so blessed!

 I am happy  that my husband  took a day off just so he could attend  the evenyt at church.  He missed   a lot of events at school just because of his job.

St. Lucy i December the 13th but  the third graders  celebrated it on the 16th because  school masses are always held on Wednesdays.

Saint Day Mass

These photos were taken on April 30th, when the kindergartner's saint day mass was held at the church prior to the Google special assembly.  It is so cute watching the kindergartner  read at the podium.  They also perform a religious  action song in front of the parents.

Involving the kids to the mass is a great aspect that I love about the school.  It's a nice  confidence booster for them.

I love all the flowers  in front of the altars.  I wish that my garden would have blooms like these lol.

Glad that Miss Burrito is starting to get comfortable in singing.  Before when she was just starting to sing in the choir, she was always nervous.  

Shopping for St. Patrick Celebration

We went to Fort Steuben Mall last weekend to find Ms. Burrito an outfit for St. Patrick's Day. She will be reading during the mass which she is very proud of because she got the long part of the reading. Her teacher talked to my husband yesterday and told him that she is very proud of our daughter for having the confidence and for doing great in school.  It warms our hearts to know that  our daughter is doing  good in school.

Before we went shopping, we let them play for a while.

Aside from the  clothes we bought for Ms. Burrito, I also found this pretty pink  house slippers.

Mardi Gras

When my daughter got the stomach flu, she missed two days of school. I had to go to school and picked up all her homework so she could keep up with the lessons. It's really nice that her teacher set her aside some of the mardi gras treats for her.

It enlighten my little girl's face when she saw the treats even though she was sick.  Thanks  to Mrs. Gain, her very kind  teacher and for the Mascio family who prepared the  treats!

That's one thing I love about  Ms. Burrito's school.  Everyone really cares for their students  just like their own family.  It's a great thing that's going on in their school and I wish that all school are like them.

Spirit Week

The students at St. Joseph School (SJS) Fall into Fun by doing different   stuff  the whole week.

• Monday was Fall Fashion Day where  they wore they favorite Fall colors.  I chose three different outfits but daughter picked this set.

• Tuesday  was Fall into Friendship where they can do something nice for their  classmates.  It could either be something that they do, make, or they can bring  in a small treat.  My daughter made some friendship ring made  out of beads.

She also made some  simple cards and wrote message  to each of them.  She gave  some of her classmates  a copy of her class picture.

• Wednesday was Wacky Hat Wednesday.  I'll reserve the photos of this one  on letter W of ABC Wednesday hehehe.
• Thursday was a Treats Day.  They decorated   their own cupcakes.
• Friday was a Spirit Day, they wore their  SJS apparel to show their school spirit.

The Angels And Saints Nostalgia # 78

When Ms. Burrito was in kindergarten, she chose to wear a saint costumer for All Saints Day celebration. She dressed up as a St. Agnes, the gown she wore was custom tailored by my friend Agnes and the shawl that she used was given by Clang from Japan.

THe kindergarten and first grader are the ones doing the  All Saint's Day dress up so this year, Ms. Burrito decided that she would be an angel.  I bought this costume online.
