Road trip to South Dakota, Day One

Doing family road trips is fun although it's hard for someone who's doing all  the driving (Thanks Hon).  He drove 10 hours on our first day though Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and then we stopped for the night in Madison, Wisconsin.  

It's always a treat to me when we drive where there's farming scenery.  

The three states that we passed by are pretty have those farming scenery which I love.  

There's a charm about farms that attracts me, maybe because I grew up in a farm and I kind of miss that now that I am older.  Yeah, I wasn't fond of living in a farm when I was younger, I always wanted to explore but now that I am older, I'd like to live in  a FARM, again lol.

Farmers here in the US has it easier because they have machineries that does things like watering system, big machineries for plowing the field, planting, harvesting, and lifting heavy stuff.  The farm where I grew up from, we  do all the work manually and to this day, a lot of farmers there still do manual labors.  Farmers in the Philippines can't afford to buy  machineries to use in the farm.

The good thing about it is that, a lot of people still know how to grow  plants and still willing to  do manual farm jobs.

I remember when I was about 7 years old, my dad  was already teaching us how to do things in the farm and that knowhow and skills still stuck in me so if I ever decide to live in a farm, I would survive for sure as long as I am  strong enough to do  manual labors.

We noticed that Indiana most have  a lot of corn fields and soy beans in their fields.  According to an article that I read,  their valuable crops includes Corn, Soybeans,  Hay & haylage, wheat, melons,  pumpkins  and mint.

The farming scenery ended when we entered Chicago.  I will continue about  our little adventure in Chicago on my next post.

I love when I can find a unique  piece at a thrift store at a very  low price.  This is my recent find   from thrift shopping last weekend.  I only paid $4 for it, I thought it was a steal, don't you think? Anyway, it looks pretty on our music corner.  I thought my husband would not like it but he did.

I wish  that the ed sheeran guitar available at Musicians Friend is within my price range, I would definitely get my son one  as he's been wanting a  new guitar  so he could start learning  to play.  I am still looking for  a violin teacher that could teach my daughter.  She has   a violin now but we can't find any teacher around the area.  

Spending Christmas Time with Dad

On Sunday, we went to Serra Manor to deliver the mails that the former owner of this house have received in this address.  Unfortunately he wasn't there  so we  just gave it to the employees.  On our way out, an old lady talked to me so I stayed a little while.  Then when we left, we proceeded to visit my father-in-law who is staying at Gables Care Center in Hopedale Ohio.  It would be nice if Dad can stay at Serra Manor, it would be closer and we can visit him more often.  Unfortunately, they are always full and  we are still waiting for some vacancy for him.  

 We were glad that he's awake when we arrived.  For a couple of times that we visited, he was  sound asleep so we were not able to  talk to him.  He was actually at the  church inside the  Gables facility when we arrived.  The nurse  got him  so we could visit.  

 My husband  pushed the wheelchair so  we can walk around with him.  We  stopped at the entrance where  there is a piano.  The kids wanted to play piano for him.  It was festive  there so I took lots of photos.

 I can tell that Dad doesn't really know who we were.  We talked to him and he barely responded.  It was nice seeing him though.  We didn't see any bruises  at all and he seem to gain a little weight while staying at  Gables.  When he stayed at one of the  nearby facility here in our area, he always had  bruises.  We didn't have an evidence for  maltreatment  from the employees but my SIL believes that they were not very nice to Dad when he stayed there that's why the family decided to   relocate him at Gables Care Center even though it was very far from here.  He seem  very happy there.  All the nurses calls him Pap.  

 Alzheimer is a hard thing to go through.  We miss Dad, we miss him when he can still recognize us and talk to us.  We were  watching old videos this morning and made us miss him even more.  

 O am glad that people at Gables Care Center  really takes care of him.

 I am not sure if he will ever  have a vacancy here in the area but that's what I pray for so he could be close to us and we can visit  him a lot more.  

My daughter brought this nativity frame to put in Dad's end table.  She made this in her art class last year.  

 We had a chance to  take a family picture with him before we left.  He was getting cold so we took him back to his room.  Below are the videos of the songs they played for him.  

  

We will try to go back there again before the year ends or on Christmas day. We will see how the weather will be like.

My Little Man's Desire to Become a DJ

Once in a while, my son still mention his desire  of learning  how to be a DJ.  He also wants to be in a band.  I told him that he can be good in intertaining because he is  a natural when it comes to it.  Who knows, he might tell me what the  GC's mpc 1000 is for when he is DJ already lol.  We will see what  the future brings for my little man.

Toccatina

My kids have just  finished  practicing  piano for today.  We make it a habit  to let them play even once a day  which they willingly oblige because that means that  they  can play extra time  with their iPods after doing their homework.   Our  traditional piano needs tuning so they have been using the  keyboard that "Santa" gave them for Christmas.

Finding our Way through the Rain

Last Saturday was our daughter's first performance  in Duquesne University for the music program she's taking.  The tunnel going to Pittsburgh was closed that day so we had to drive  all the way to McKee's Rock to go to Pittsburgh.  We left early because we did not want to be late.  It was raining as well so it wasn't  the prettiest day to go somewhere but we were all excited.  

 Rylie was  nervous but I wasn't, which surprised me because I am always nervous when she have to perform lol.

 Ej and I used to not go when she has to take her classes there on Saturday but since it was her first performance there, we did not want to miss it. Besides, hubby doesn't like taking pictures lol.

 While waiting, we took our time to take  pictures.

 Looking at the photos here, I came to realized, my kids are almost my size!  Time do fly by so fast!

 The tunnel going back to Weirton was open so it  was easy  coming back home than going there.
