Gemstones and Minerals

One of the most favorite things that Ms. Burrito did at the farm last pumpkin season was  finding rocks and minerals.  There was a stall at Janoski's Farm  where you can   sift through the sand and water and find these gemstones and minerals.  The fee is $5  for each small bag of sand.  It was a big hit for the kids.
The rocks they found at  the sand is not really worth  the amount you paid but the JOY that  the child feels when they are doing the  "Finding Treasure"  was well worth it.
Ms. Burrito's friend  screamed "I am  a millionaire" when she found the  false or fool's  gold lol.  I was glad that I let her do it because  now she has a little knowledge about certain rocks.  She even   brought her collection  in school for show and tell and the teacher complimented her for that.
Have a great weekend everyone!

The murky water shot is my favorite. Reminds me of good times playing in puddles when I was a kid!

From the chart in one of the photos, it looks like it's quite educational, too! My older daughter had a rock polisher and it amazed me what beauty could come from plain old rocks she found on the ground.

A bag of sand does not seem like much - but a mere $5 gets such beautiful stones. There may not be diamonds, but treasures indeed!

I remember my son doing something like that on one of our trips to the Smoky Mountains. He loved it and he too found the "fools gold". I agree that sometimes it is the joy and happiness on a child's face that makes these costly things worth doing.

Love the flow of murky water! Quite dramatic! Children love to explore and discover! Great to encourage it!
