Four Miles Family Walk

We did not go anywhere last weekend except  attending a  mass and  went dining at a Mexican restaurant.  The food we ate was heavy so we asked the kids if they want to go to the park and of course they said yes.  To make it more exciting, we asked them if they want to walk going there.  The park is about two miles from our home, and we were surprised that both of them said yes.

When hubby and I walked without the kids, we thought that it was far so we expect the kids to complain but we were surprised again that they did not complain at all.  They absolutely love it as  we can see  everything.  Do you see the crow on top of the  church cross?

They saw the new elementary school that being constructed up close.  Three of the elementary schools in our area will be consolidated in this one  big school.  I figure that this would  cause  heavy traffic when they open up as it is  by the main road.

When we arrived at the park, there was one family in there  with four  kids.  One of the kids got hurt as she fell from one of the  monkey bars.  They left so suddenly and we noticed that they left some belongings including an iPad, my husband tried to wave at them hoping that they would stop but they didn't.  We did not want to leave those items in the park as we don't want them to  think that we  took it so we  called the police station and reported it.

It took a while before the police came.  A young police officer came and explained to us while it took him  long before coming.  He said that they don't really know what to do with this type of cases but they found a form  for it so they let  my husband  sign it.  The  paper is intended to protect both the policeman and  us as it states what are the items that were there.
My kids learned  few  lessons that day.  They learned to be a good Samaritan, learned to be cautious, and  practice CARE for others.

Although  we walked far, my kids were still enthusiastic in walking back home.  As young as my kids are, hubby and I try to instill in their minds that being healthy does not only mean physically but also  emotionally and  spiritually.  Sorry for the long post.

I have to agree motor cyclists are always at risk. Drivers of four wheels have little respect for motor bikes or cyclists! Diane

You certainly taught them a very important lesson which they can now take with them as they journey off on their own (eventually). You have also got your children acclimated to walking distances--they have really good leg muscles I bet which is VERY good.

So nice of you not to just take the stuff or leave it. I wouldn't have thought to call the police. I think I would have put something up on Craigslist or something. Thanks for sharing.

It's so nice of your family to bond like this, and more so, to have been great models to your children for calling the police to report of the left belongings.

What a happy family! It's so nice of you and your husband to spend time with the kids despite the presence of the things you have to complete. You certainly know how to set priorities, ate. Family always comes first!

It's good that you guys found it and not other people. I'm sure the owner was happy to have it back.

That's a very good way to stay healthy in most aspects of life, emotionally, physically, mentally and socially. We don't have a car here, so my family and I usually walk to the park and grocery and let our kids walk too, oh, only the eldest, the toddler would complain for sure. hehehe

Another Walk to Remember. I guess, it doesn't matter whether its a mile or 5 miles, quality moments with family foster love and camaraderie.

That's a very good thing to do and what a way to show good example to your kids. Way to go sis!

I love how your family always enjoy fun times together. We try to do that too even if my daughter is a teen now. I just want to instill in her the feeling of family solidarity.

walking is the best way to burn calories at the same time enjoy the scenery around. kids would adore walking too for they have more freedom to do something while walking with parents.

Two miles is a looong walk. But with kids have so much energy that two miles is just a walk around the block for them. :-)

goods deeds are important and what makes it more essential is that you've shown your kids the value of doing good. i'm sure it will creatre an indelible mark in their minds. if those valuable was lost here, i wonder if it could ever be returned to the owner.

beautiful family you have there sis! Beautiful bonding (healthy and full of lessons). What you did with what you found was surely a beautiful way of teaching the children honesty. Values are more CAUGHT than taught. God bless you and your family!
