An Urban Campus in a Park-Like Setting

On August 18, we  made a trip to  Pittsburgh  to get my husband's books that he needed for his classes in Duquesne University's  graduate program.  He is taking Master in Leadership in Professional Administration.  Last year, he  attempted to do his masters  through online school but he did not like the  setting so he cancelled his enrollment.  Then we  enrolled our daughter  at City Music Center in the same university, he decided to do his  schooling there as well.  I admire  my husband's perseverance in  continuing his education.
Driving around in the city of bridges is very relaxing.  You can see beautiful  old buildings and modern ones as well.   Then as you enter Doquene University, you'll be amazed to see that this is an urban campus in a park-like setting.  It is beautiful inside.  I love how you can comfortably walk around the campus, it's friendly out there and it has the family-oriented atmosphere.  We have been in Robert Morris University several times when my husband was  having his under-graduate there but every time we were there, it feels very different there.
The Power Center is where we picked  his books at.  Instead of buying a new one, he rented it at their bookstore.  There is a skywalk that connects between the Power Center to Doquesne Square where my daughter's music program is being  held at Mary Pappert School of Music building.

For the next coming weeks, only my  husband and daughter would go there.  I will be  staying at home with my son so he won't be so bored  over there when  his sister is  having her music lessons.  It would also give my husband  some time to do his homework at the library. Hubby is taking advantage of the education benefits that the company is giving to them.  He has to shoulder 10% of the expenses but it is so much better than paying  100% out of your pocket.
Till next time folks.

Exploring Doquesne University

We went to Doquesne University in Pittsburgh on February 22nd to see if Ms. Burrito would qualify for their music program. The head director evaluated her for her skills and she passed. She will be starting there in September. It will be a big change for us because moving there is a lot expensive that the tuition she is paying her in our area for piano lessons.  I will talk about the details in my music blog next time.  Meanwhile here are some photos we had during our  tour down at DU.
Doquesne University is a huge campus.  We had so much fun checking out every building out there.  In fact we had a good exercise during our tour lol.  Daughter will start going to their music program in September.

Weekend School Project

When Ms. Burrito came home from school last Friday, she has a project to make.  She wanted to  make it that day but we  did not have the materials.  So after  the get together that we had yesterday with the Brady and Worthington families, they went to the store and bought some materials to use.
We did her project first thing this morning before we ate breakfast.
We had to decorate the  number 100 with 100 different things and that is what we came up with.
Have a good week ahead everyone!

Excellent First Week of School

Rylie had an excellent first week of school. She seemed to enjoy it a lot. She doesn't mind waking up early. I mind because I wake up at 5 am to prepare her breakfast and lunch hehehe. I am getting used to it now though. Of all the kids in her class, she is the smallest lol.

This is the official first day of school. We encouraged her to use uniform even though they are not required. Her and her classmates wear uniforms on Mondays and Thursdays.

Her choice for her school things is Tinkerbell theme. We bought her a backpack for her size and a lunch bag.
Then we had to replace her backpack because the notebook and folders doesn't fit into the small one.

The school is just a ten-minute walk from our home so we are walking her down there every day and fetch her in the afternoon. I have to wake her up at 6 am so she could eat her breakfast (it takes 20-30 minutes for her to eat wahhh). We usually out the door at 7:15.

Yesterday it was foggy when we walked out the door. She wanted to go early so she could be the first one there. We left at 7 am lol. We beat the teacher from arriving in the classroom. She was shocked when we were there already when she arrived. She told me that Rylie don't need to be there till 7:30 hehehe.

She did great on her first week. It's nice to see the papers that she did the whole week with "great job" remarks from her teacher. They also used traffic lights for their behavior every day. Green means Good Job, Yellow - Caution, and Red for time out. She got green the whole week!

Rylie's Uniform

Hello everyone, howdy? We were out the whole day today and I am tired right now lol. We drove down to Green Tree in Pittsburgh to buy our school girl some uniform at Educational Outfitter. The kindergarten students are not required to wear a uniform but most of the moms agreed that we have to accustom the kids in wearing it. So they will be wearing a uniform on Monday's and Thursdays.

I don't know what's wrong with me but I am so stressed out that my daughter is going to school already. It is just me or most of the moms feel this way when their kids goes to school for the first time wahhh. I feel so paranoid lol. Anyhow, we got her two sets of uniform, the navy blue skort and the plaid jumper. We also bought her shoes at Educational Bathfitter. I am so glad that the young lady who assisted us very jolly which made it a fun and enjoyable experience for Rylie.

The uniforms are a little bit big for Rye but it's okay, she can use it still next year. The polo shirt has an embroidered name of their school. I also bought her some pony tails that matches the uniform. Oh girls are very expensive to buy outfits to lol..

Alrighty everyone, it's time for me to hit the bed as I have to get up early for my daughter's first day of school. Hope I could sleep good tonight, which I doubt it lol..

Nostalgia # 6 - School & Work

Below is a picture of the school where I earned my Bachelor and Master's degrees and also the place where I work for almost five years before I migrated here in the US of A. You may read the whole story by clicking the snippet below

The photo was taken before it was repainted about 8 years ago. When I visited last year during our vacation, it looked so different although the structure is the same but a lot of improvements were made.

Easy Scholarships

When my youngest sister from the Philippines texted me that she wanted to give up her scholarship, I was upset. I told her thet there is no such easy scholarship in our country, so if you want to keep it, you have to do your part and work for it. I told her that without it, I will not send her to school, that she has to do it on her own. I am glad that she listened to me and kept her scholarship or else she would not enjoy school activities such as the photos below.

Unlike my home country, you will be able to find easy scholarships here in the States. It is just a matter of researching for it. You can actually land or find a very good scholarship if you will just take time to look for it. And it is not hard to apply here compared to my home country where you will be given a pile of unending requirements just to get in.

It's been..
