Ships for the 4th of July

These are the ships model  displayed at the Brooke County Historical Museum  in Wellsburgh.  I think that people who can do these models are really talented because even though these are smalls. a lot of details  goes into it.  It's amazing how they can build  this looking exactly like the real thing.
I wish I have  information  for every  ship on the display but unfortunately, I have none.
But I thought these are good photos to post since the 4th of July is coming.
I think that as time passes by, less and less people are appreciative of what  men and women in unifprm are doing for the country.
I am not exactly sure though if these are war shhips or just  ships that carried cargos and other stuff on the river.  ne thing for sure is that, they are beautifully made!

Sleigh

Okay, this is something that is  old but really new to me.  I only see sleigh on movies but not for real.  This was one of the antiques over at the Brooke County Historical Museum in Wellsburg, WV.
 Kids were pretty amazed.
According to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Sled):
A sled, sledge, or sleigh is a land vehicle with a smooth underside or possessing a separate body supported by two or more smooth, relatively narrow, longitudinal runners that travels by sliding across a surface. Most sleds are used on surfaces with low friction, such as snow or ice. In some cases, sleds may be used on mud, grass, or even smooth stones. They may be used to transport passengers, cargo, or both. Shades of meaning differentiating the three terms often reflect regional variations depending on historical uses and prevailing climate.

It would  be magical to be able to  ride a sleigh in this modern times, wouldn't it?

Museum on the Bay

Our trip to  Corpus Cristi, Texas was  full of fun.  We mainly visited the USS Lexington or the Museum by the Bay as it is popularly known as.  It's nice that they turn this old military ship into a tourist attraction.  People can learn   things about the military.

I wish that we could have more time to spend a day or two so we could have explored  it more but we were only there for certain hours as it was a bit far from San Antonio, Texas.
Our family friend is  lucky that they live  where they can just drive and see  it.
Despite the time constraints, we managed to have fun and learn a lot of things about the  military history.  The kids got to enjoy swimming in the ocean and it  was  an adventure worth remembering with the Dias Family.  Little by little, I will be  posting photos, I just can't do it  right away as I have so many things going on whew.

Traveling through Museum

Let's travel through  Cleveland Museum of Arts.  Museums is just a perfect place to  have kids's imagination soar.  It's a 2 hours and 15 minutes drive from where we live but it's worth the drive and the time.  The kids had so much fun exploring the endless possibilities of information and entertainment.
I am not sure  if they closed when the government shut down but I figure that they did because it's a government operated facility.  Isn't that awful that government officials can't come up with a unanimous decision and could not come with an agreeable conclusion?

Trip to Museum

Before we visited my FIL during the Veteran's day, we decided to make a trip to the small museum in downtown Weirton. The place was so small but we learned a lot of things about the town through the pictures and demonstration by the man who work there. Too bad, taking pictures is strictly prohibited so I wasn't able to get any documentation hehehe.

Here is how the  town looks like back in 1905.  (Picture was taken from their website at weirtomuseum.com)
1905 View of Holliday's Cove
We also learned that  there was an existing airport here in town back in 1950.  My husband  don't even know that it existed.  This is airport is now a shopping plaza where big stores like KMart and other establishments are located.
1950 Weirton Airport
Another interesting note is the former name of this town, it was formerly Holliday's Cove but then a rich guy who started/founded the steel mill  changed it into Weirton.   A woman named Elin Nummi who lived here in town  was a TITANIC survivor.  It is so nice to go to the museum as you learn a lot of things that you don't know.   There are so many  old stuff there that are preserved for future generations that is why  taking photos are not allowed.  The place was so small though, I hope that someday, they would find a big place for the museum because they have so many pictures to display but  there  is no place to put them.

Anyhow, we proceeded to  Dad and we  caught him raking leaves in the backyard so we took  some pictures.
My 88 years old FIL, still active and strong.
Hubby exhibiting his goofy pose lol.
A shot of these two ornery burritos who were in the mood to pose  for us.
Thanks everyone for dropping by.  If you are interested on how our town looks like, you might want to visit the url that I  provided above.  Thanks to your comments.
