Packing For A Girls Weekend Away

Apart from (maybe) the first time your kid walks or you realize you’ve hit your weight loss target, nothing is more exciting than when your phone pings and there is a message on your girly Whatsapp group that says, “We’re doing a weekend away, who’s in?”

It doesn’t matter whether it is a flight to Vegas, a trip to wine country or just two days getting absolutely pampered, getting away with the girls is one of the best. Of course, there is one little niggling feeling that always creeps into the back of your head, and that’s knowing what to pack.

Sure, where you are going and when will mean you have to make some minor modifications but, all in all, this is a pretty solid list of things to pack for a weekend getaway. Now, all that’s left to do is have a good time. Woohoo.

Cramming In Your Clothes

The toughest decision is always going to be what clothes to pack in your medium-sized holdall suitcase. Luckily, we’ve got you covered:

A little black dress for that upmarket night and two women's sundresses that can be worn for any occasion with the right accessorizing.

  • A not-too-thick sweater you can throw over anything.
  • A tee shirt or tank top.
  • Two comfortable but stylish bras.
  • One dressy top that can be worn day or night; the kind that works well with dark jeans.
  • Your favorite pair of jeans. Of course.
  • Some more casual pants.
  • Pajamas.
  • A pair of cute socks.
  • And three pairs of underwear.

Choosing Your Yours

This is the tricky one, and not just because of the style options either, but choosing a color that will work with everything. Now, you are probably thinking, “black shoes are the obvious choice here,” and once upon a time you would have been right. However, we think nude is the new black. Nude can be worn with anything, anywhere, anytime. It could be your LBD for an evening on the town or a sundress on the beach. Anyway, as for style, go with one pair of heels-slash-wedges, one pair of sandals and one pair of flats or sneakers. There, you’ve covered yourself completely.

Must-Have Accessories

This is another one of those areas where you can be staring at a pile of hundreds of tidbits and not know what’s essential and what isn’t. All you know is, you want to look effortless stylish from the moment you step onto the plane to when you get home afterwards. As such, stick with a pair of sunglasses, your favourite combination of jewelry, some bobby pins and, if you’re a hat girl, your favourite statement hat.

The Essential Toiletries

Now, where you are going and where you are staying may have a little influence on how much you need to pack. But, as a safe bet, our advice would be to pack the following:

  • Your toothbrush, toothpaste and floss.
  • Your most-trusted face wash
  • Some moisturising cream - but one that has an SPF of 30+.
  • Chapstick - once again, with a high-ish SPF rating.
  • Your favorite shampoo, conditioner and body wash, just in a fun-size bottle.
  • Deodorant and perfume.
  • Brush and comb.
  • A packet of soft tissues.
  • Contact lense bits and bobs if you need them.

And, last but not least, your straighteners because, well, you never know what sort of mood you are going to be in and, let’s be honest, it’s better to have straighteners and not need them than vice versa.

Wow! Her first taste of freedom! I bet you're too worried but she's too excited! :) I remember my daughter's first "out of country" school field trip in Muscat, Oman when she was just in Grade 6 or 7 with some of the chosen students and their teachers as chaperones. I was a nervous wreck! But when she came back showing me all the adventures they had while in Oman, I was relieved because she had a great time with her classmates and friends. I am sure your daughter had fun as well and had a good taste of what it's like to be in tune with nature, away from moms and pops, and to have a great time with friends.

Sounds like you have everything covered when packing for a girl's weekend getaway. It's always important to make sure that you have everything you need.

Depends on where I am going and what we are doing goes into my packing for a weekend. Outdoor stuff is totally different from say going to a museum.

It's been a long time since I last went on a weekend trip with the girls and it sounds like a lot of fun. It's good that you listed everything that's needed for whatever trip you're planning. This is so helpful!

This camp sounds so cool! My daughter is doing Sea World camp for a few days, so that'll be weird to have her gone for so long! I'll keep this packing list in mind.

I have to make a list whenever I go away. I used to pack for my son, but now he does it himself and it's so much easier.

Seems like a wonderful experience your daughter is having at camp. I hope my kids will experience going to camp someday but don't know if they'd be too scared to leave home to ever do it. They can be real scaredy cats. I'm horrible at travel packing so my wife always has to take charge and help me get my bag(s) organized.

It is a mixed bag of emotions when your kid goes out for the first time alone. The house suddenly feels empty even thought the outing is for a day or two. But then it is time to let go.

Packing a sweater in case it gets chilly is super important. Every time I forget a sweater, I need it badly.

Oh she's going to have a blast. Our kids have never been away at camp. Probably when they are a bit older I'll let them experience that.

My daughter isn't too keen on the act of sleeping away from home. She's done it three times, and the last of those, she came home in the middle of the night. I wonder what she is gonna do about our church youth lock in they are having next month?! Hmm.

I like the idea of nude shoes. They really will go with everything. I hope your daughter continues to love camp.

I am constantly packing for my boys. I need to get them with the program & get them packing themselves!

My girls weekends usually involve comic con, so we pack a whole host of weird stuff. It is always so much fun.

I have been through those feelings of worry when my kids went away to camp when they were young. I guess the best thing to do is to trust them that they will be at their best behavior and wish them to have a good time. This would be good for their mental and emotional growth, so just relax and every thing will be okay.

This is a very well thought out list. Clearly you have done this a time or too!

Besides my son staying at his dads and the occasional overnight at grandmas, I'm not sure if I'm ready to be away from the kids! lol. Even thought I was just saying to Hubby we need a weekend vaca away from the kids.

I've never done a girls weekend but my daughter recently went on a school trip where the girls all shared a cabin and were gone for 3 days. I was missing her so much but she had a blast - girls trips sometimes are a must! - Jeanine
