The Top Ways You Can Encourage Your Aspiring Child Superstar

At  Kinsley Ard Memorial Talent Show
If you’ve got an aspiring child superstar on your hand then there is a good chance you are busy carting them from audition to audition, meeting with the agent, and helping to get their career off the ground. While all of this is important, your budding star also needs emotional support and encouragement. So what can you do to offer this kind of support? Here are some tips.

Help Them through Disappointments

Show business is often filled with disappointments, so it's important to offer support when this happens. Your child's self-esteem can take a real hit in these moments, so as a parent it's important to teach them the value of a lesson.

Let them know that failure is part of learning and is actually an opportunity to better themselves. Failure doesn’t mean they should give up; rather, they need to make some adjustments for next time. This is the kind of lesson that they can carry with them through their life anytime they are feeling low on self-esteem.

Praise Them for a Job Well Done

Over-praising is never a good idea, as this sets them up for disappointments, but praising them when they deserve it offers them that boost of encouragement they need. Even if you are just praising them for giving all they’ve got, whether they succeeded or not, this is still worthy of praise.
Make Sure You Show How Much You Love Them

This particular tip is even more important in these tough times. They need to know that whatever happens with their quest in the entertainment industry, you are there for them and love them no matter what. They need to know that you are their safe space and that you don’t care how things have gone at the latest audition.
Great job taking home the win!
Look at What Others are Doing

As a final tip, this one is more to help parents find their way. Show business is a tricky and often fickle business, so knowing what to expect and how things work can help. An excellent source of information is to take a look at some of the reality TV shows on today that showcase the life and activities of these budding young stars.

Straight from actor and producer Michael Palance is the show "My Hollywood". This show is currently being filmed in a few different locations around the world and chronicles the lives of families who are helping their kids break into the entertainment business. It’s a wonderful peek into the world you can expect to be a part of.

It’s also a good idea to follow the adventures of Michael David Palance through Twitter so you’ll have the inside scoop.

Helping Your Child to Realize Their Dreams

There is so much that you can do as a parent to help your child realize their dreams, but it’s important to also remember that much of that help comes in the form of emotional support and encouragement. These tips will help you to navigate the waters of support.

It is great that you are so supportive of your daughter's desire to perform. Some parents would not be so accommodating. She is very talented!

I will support my child in almost anything that he can do. Everything you mentioned here I definitely do for my child. I want him to know that he can do anything that he puts his mind to.

I definitely think kids should be praised and taught to be grounded and have a healthy self esteem. We should support our kids and always be there for them.

These are great tips! It's definitely important to spend time with them and let them know you care. Our oldest is a tween now and man that's taken us for a ride, but we're still trying to do everything we can to let him know no matter how he's feeling about us on a given day, we still love him the same ;)

Teaching your child good lessons during a disappointment is ideal because then they come to understand their emotions. Praising them while not putting them on a pedestal is also important.

Your daughter is lucky to have you. I am happy to read about parents who are fully supportive of their children's dreams and do everything within their means to help them achieve that dream! With that talent your daughter has, and the love and support she gets from you, I am sure she will go places.

These are good tips, because although I believe it comes easier to some kids, I think most of them can be coached into learning!

Great tips. I did some modeling when I was a teen and my mom was very supportive. I learned a lot of lessons that I was able to carry over into my adult life. My Mom didn't push me but having her support was incredible. She was my biggest fan and that alone did wonders for my self esteem.

I think you offer the right balance for your child. A parent needs to be supportive but realistic in what is going to happen. And yes there is going to be disappointments along the way and wonderful parent such as yourself will help your daughter succeed.

These are all great tips for ways to encourage your child to go after their dreams. It is important to tell them there is no success without failure first. A lot of parents don't know that to much praise can hurt the child when they do fail. Thanks for sharing the tips and the video of your daughter's recital which is amazing.
