Journey of an Immigrant

A journey of an immigrant  is not easy.  Just getting out from my former country was  harder than I thought.  I spent two more years  living in the Philippines before my application to come here was  granted.  It was a great challenge for me and my husband as we  were living miles apart.  He was living  in Guam back then.  Thanks to the technology, we were able to survive the separation.   After 8 1/2 years of living here, I finally became one of them, a US citizen.

We were given a packet during the oath taking ceremony.  Inside the packet was an excerpt of the message  by the President of the United States.  The message was also shown at his video that was shown to us during the program.

Inside the packet also includes a Voter's Guide, the Citizen Almanac book, application form for U.S. passport, and the booklet for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

Although I am living here for  the past 8 years already, becoming a citizen is yet a new  chapter, a new journey to  enjoy with my family.

How about you, do you any experience like me?

congratulations, Rose. I got my US citizenship 2012 only, I resisted applying before, but maybe, a blessing in disguise, I did not have very good experience with the Philippine consulate in LA that I decided to apply for citizenship to get a passport. Glad you have joined your family's citizenship :) congrats again

Congratulations!!! I delayed acquiring my US citizenship for fear of being left out sa mana hahaha. The last straw however, was when I went to secure a French Visa for the 2nd time. As usual unfriendly sila sa kanilang embassy dito. That was the same year when that Bill of dual citizenship was passed sa Congress. In no time I applied for US citizenship and a few months after I became a US citizen I re-acquired my Phil citizenship and became a dual citizen.

Happy ako that I'm able to travel without the hassles of getting a Visa and hindi na forfeit mana ko hahaha.

Wowowee! Congrats sister for being an American citizen. Me too, had to stay in the Philippines for more than 3 years before moving here only because we didn't file the papers right away. But being miles apart I can relate with you, it was hard.
