Craw Fishing Adventure at Tomlinson Run Stream

Hubby always tells the kids that when he was a kid, he used to catch  craw fish whenever his Dad would take him in the river.  I was the same way, we always  catch crabs in the river when I was  growing up.
We found some live shells, this is the first my kids seen  them alive.  The shells reminds me of my life back then, we used to  gather this and  cooked them.  We put the shells back after  I took a photo of them.  We found so many craw fish swimming around so we started to catch them.
At first, I showed him how to catch  them.  MY husband found some  bait containers which  helped us in catching the craw fish.  Catching the craw fish brought the youth in me, I felt like a kid again lol.
It's funny that both of them fell  and got so muddy but they just laughed it off.
Both hubby and I were surprised of how much enjoyment the kids had  with this simple activity.
We caught almost  40 pieces of good size  craw fish that day.  You might ask what we did  with them, well, you'll find out soon hehehe.  Below are some  mother and daughter photo opp before finally leaving the place.
It was a fun-filled weekend for us.  The kids got to enjoy what me and hubby enjoyed as a kid.  They  appreciate nature even more.  It's just sad that  most of the kids nowadays don't even enjoy what the nature has to offer.
My daughter  told her classmates what did during the weekend and she said that they don't really care and not interested with that kind of stuff.  I told her not to be bummed out about it as not all  people think the same or appreciate the same things.  Some just  enjoy gadgets  and others enjoy simple things, just like we do.  I also told her that  the activity that we did is healthy for all of us.

It really is sad that more parents don't take their kids out into nature and just have fun--I'm not sure I would have liked to catch crawfish buty I certainly would have loved splashing in the river (I still would for that matter!)

What exactly did you do with the crawfish? Did you steam them or cook them in spices? Uhm... It just occurred to me that I've never eaten crawfish and am not even sure if they're edible. :P

Okay, I have to come visit. That would be so much fun. I have only seen two craw fish alive where I live and that was when we were on a bike ride and they were lost in the road. We relocated them, I am sure there are more but have no idea where to look. Tell your daughter that she is lucky, most parents today do not do this type of thing and just entertain their kids with video games. You are giving her so many wonderful memories.

I have always wanted to eat crawfish, but when I learned that they live in mud, it kinda discourage me. But if I will find a resto with really good crawfish recipe, I will try it.

Sometimes or a lot of times, it is those simple family moments that are really fun and precious. I love how you taught them how to catch craw daddies. So awesome! By the look of your photos, I can tell you all had a great time.

Years ago we were out for a drive with our three kids and found a back road that ended at a river. We got out and spent an hour or two there and the kids had such a blast. They are all now in their 40's and they all remember that day. Each one has revisited the spot, two with their own kids. I brought home a clump of daisy's that bloomed in my yard every summer for years.

When I think of crawfish, I think of Louisiana as the place to find these mudbugs - nice to know they are also up in WV/PA...I like that they are sweeter than shrimp. I'll assume you had a shellfish feast at a later date. Kids and mud - they all love it, although we lose that love as grown-ups!

I have never done something like that before. But I did love wandering bushland as a child. Always a great way to make discoveries. Great photos.

You really had much fun. I wonder if my family and I can have this kind of adventure too.

is the river near your place?
i wished we could do something like that here. however, we can't for two reasons, one is, water's here too polluted craw fishes can't survive in it. number two, locals would swarm every streams whenever they found there's plenty to catch.

i enjoyed your photos. i remember my mom's "kwentos" catching clams when she was a kid.
