Nostalgia # 11 - Remembering my Father

My entry for this week is my beloved Father who passed away seven years ago. He died on July 31, 2003 when I was at the embassy in Manila with John to get our marriage permit. He was so excited of us getting married and he over celebrated it by drinking alcohol and forgot to eat.
Mama said that he told her, he is going to go to the nearby barangay to tell his friends that his future son-in-law is coming and that me and John are going to get married. If he could have celebrated his happiness in our home, he could have been still alive till now because my mother could have let him eat. But I guess it was his time. You may want to read the whole story here.

This is the only picture that my father and I had together.

The feeling of euphoric excitement can be overpowering and bit dangerous to old people. I realize that as I am getting old, so I try mellow down especially of my over-sensitivity plus my near heart attack. I'm not sure if it was your story that I read about the death of someone's father. I'll get back to read the story. (I've been scanning old pictures that span memory to join you).

Pareho pala tayong wala ng dad. Well, it was really sad to lose a father, but then, he was very happy naman...and at least he left with a secured feeling that even if he left you, he knew you will be "in good hands" by marrying John.

oh my, i can only imagine how devastated you were when you got the news of your father's death on one of the happiest days of your life. i believe that when there's death in the family, there is always a joy coming. a few days after my dad passed away, my aunt (dad's younger sister) gave birth--the new baby gave us a reason to smile during those dark time.

In spite of his harmless vices, your father has been good to you. You learned your positive traits from both your parents. It is wise to remember your father from time to time to remember the valuable lessons you learned from him. Thanks for the nostalgic post. God bless you all always.

i've read your father's story on one of your posts before. a very sad story Tokaya, your father died before your wedding day. i know he is happy for you wherever he is now.

wala talagang naidudulot na mabuti sa katawan ang alak kaya naiinis ako ngayon sa Tatay ko kase naospital na at lahat pero sige pa din ang inom...haaay.

It saddened me to see your picture with your father. Until now I still don't think that my father is gone. I can't bear to look at his pictures. I dream of him sometimes and in my dream he is strong and not sick, then I wake up with tears in my eyes. I know how you miss your dad and how painful to lose a loved one..
