Family Portraits

Our church  announced  in April that a company will come to take  family  pictures for the church directory. We have never done anything like that so we thought of doing it this year so we can be included in it.   The company is called Re:MEMBER Church Directories.  It's a company from North Carolina that  offer to take pictures  for free for  churches.  The church doesn't pay them anything for their services but to  compensate for their time,  they would encourage and  talk  the families into ordering their photo packages.  Just like us, we didn't really plan on getting  the package as the photo session entitled us a free 8 x 8 copy of the photo.  But our plan changed as the photographer  talked us into ordering a package.
Anyway, I didn't like that  I am a little hunchback in some of these shots.  An excellent photographer would tell you to correct your posture .  An excellent photographer is a good director.  I don't even like how my  daughter's posture lok like.
We ordered the 10x20 Trio Portrait.  It has a cherry frame  and a black digital mat.  We paid $179.51 for it.  The package   comes with a touch up and a CD from which I copied these photos.  The touch up includes  soften  facial lines, remove blemishes,  and whiten teeth.  Honestly, I don't think they did a good job in  the touchup because our teeth still looks the same and our fine lines are still visible.  What I don't like is the oily face that we have lol.
The only thing that encouraged us to order is the fact that the photographer is very friendly .
I don't like the poses that he instructed my daughter to do.  Her arms doestn't look good at all.  I should have watched when they were having their photos taken.  I could have told her that her posture wasn't right.  But, the fact that it was a professional photographer, I rest my trust in him that he would do a great job.
On another note, the frame arrived  safely then a couple of weeks later, we received the  photos.

The photos were packaged neatly but one of the cormers of the trio photo was damaged as shown in the photo above.   The frame doesn't have a  glass but the photo was thicker than regular photo.  I still have to hang this on our wall, I will show you it when I finish my project.
If I have to rate the overall experience, I'll give it 3 stars.  For the  price I paid, I expect  much better but it's okay, you live and you learn.

I'm sorry your experience wasn't what it should be. The upshot is that no matter what studio you go to, it looks like the family will always come out looking great together. You guys are so cute in your photos!

Sorry you didn't have the best experience but your family is beautiful! Regardless of the poses/quality, I don't think you guys could look bad if you tried :)

Those photographs are actually very nice! It was good that you could pick from the best ones and then put together a collage. I think over time, you will appreciate them more and more! But I do understand your concern when the photographer doesn't know your family like you do and makes bad suggestions for poses and also the re-touch seems not very good.

I think there are a lot of good shots in this bunch and don't really see a posture issue with you or your daughter. I think you are just being too critical. They look great!

I hate that they weren't that great of quality! Thats why I always take my own pictures because I am afraid of someone totally messing up and we paying for it. Y'all still look great though.

I always cringe at taking family photos in a portrait studio setting. I much rather get some natural poses of my family. They are horrible photos but I think they would have been less rigid in another type of setting.

You have a beautiful family. How nice of your church to do that. How I wish our churches here would also do that.

The three pictures in the frame are totally awesome I think. I don't think I would have paid that much for the family pictures but than again, I am cheap. Thanks for sharing.

That's kind of annoying when you paid for such an amount and you were not satisfied with it. But you all still look cute in those photos. :)

I really like how you put the 3 photos in that portrait, these are some very nice high quality photos that anyone would want to show off to family and friends.

Great family pictures. The church I grew up in created a church directory and everyone took family pictures. I was enjoyed looking in the book at all of the pictures. It was helpful when trying to put a name with a face of someone I didn't know.

It stinks that these weren't as good as you expected! I still think you have an absolutely beautiful family.

The very reason why I always try to DIY our family shoots. I get the result i want (that is if the kids and the hubby are cooperative, haha) and it's free!!!

Your portraits are beautiful nonetheless because you have a very beautiful family to boot!

Ay! That is kind of disappointing, knowing you paid about $100+ for it. The photos should at least arrived flawless. :(

Anyway, your family is so beautiful Ate :)

It is always nice to take a family photo to capture the memory of your family! I love that it was for a directory.

Photos are so expensive. We have a friend who is now a photographer. Our first session with her was $50 (5 years ago), now her sessions are $400. I would love to capture my family, but if you go with someone inexperienced, you pay money for pictures you could have done yourself, and if you go with a known photographer, you spend half your mortgage on a few pictures!

Good photographers are hard to find and some people just don't mesh - sounds like maybe that was what you guys had going on. The pics look great though and the kids kept smiling!
